An Exploration of Responsibility: British-Caribbean history and its impact on contemporary Black-British art (2023)
An Exploration of Responsibility: British-Caribbean history and its impact on contemporary Black-British art (2023) explores the influence of a wider public discussion of British-Caribbean history on the world of Black-British art. In response to the murder of George Floyd in 2020, this thesis questions the contemporary responsibilities ofcurators and institutions towards the improvement of equality, diversity and inclusion by examining three recent major exhibitions of Black art in the UK. By analysing the contemporary production of Black-British art in response to the transatlantic slave trade and collective trauma, this paper seeks to explore the changing responsibilities and reception of work created by British-Caribbean artists.
